School Refusal
What is School Refusal?
School refusal is when a teen or adolescent has issues staying in school or refuses to go to school. There can be a number of reasons that your teen may want to avoid school, but if they regularly refuse to go to school or are not staying, it could be a sign of a deeper issue. School refusal is the result of overwhelming emotions, like anxiety or panic, that your teen is experiencing and looking to avoid.
When Is Treatment Appropriate?
When your teen is regularly experiencing issues going to school, it may be time for professional treatment. At Moriah, we work to address the underlying issues of school refusal. By working with your teen to discover the issues that are causing the school refusal, we are able to help them in their healing.
Each teen has a unique set of issues for refusing to go to school. We assess each teen individually and determine the most appropriate level of care, matching them with the program that meets their clinical and individual needs.
What type of Treatment is best?
We believe that the specific needs of each client should drive the treatment at Moriah. We get to know each of our clients and where they are at with their school refusal. We know that each teen and those that care for them are different and an individualized treatment plan will work best. To ensure an appropriate level of treatment for each client at Moriah, we provide several levels of care to support them in their healing during treatment and beyond. The levels of care we provide are residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), virtual therapy, supported living, and alumni support.
